Wooden Gates – Information to Provide When Making an Enquiry

Here at Garden Gates Direct we offer a wide range of wooden gates that will suit a variety of residential applications. We receive many daily enquires relating to these products and therefore well versed to help you to select the correct size to suit a given application.

If you would like to enquire about one of our wooden gates, we will need you to provide us with relevant information. Below we have detailed what we will need to know.

Preferred Design

Our website showcases all the wooden gate designs we can offer so please take the time to view the relevant categories within the online shop to find a design that suits your tastes and budget. To aid you in your search for the perfect gate you can choose from the following categories.

• Wooden Garden Gates (these are available as standard in 3ft and 4ft high as well as a limited number of 5ft high options).
• Wooden Side Gates (these designs are around 6ft high. Some options are slightly taller than this).
• Wooden Driveway Gates (these are double gates and are available in heights of 3ft and 4ft)
• Wooden Estate Gates (manufactured to a height of approximately 6ft in a wide selection of designs).

Once you have found an appropriate design you must specify this when making your enquiry.

Size of the Gates

Wooden gates can be a little complicated to establish the correct size to suit a given application therefore please choose the most relevant option below and provide us with the details.

Replacement of Existing Wooden Gate – If you are replacing an existing wooden gate and will be installing it in the same way simply measure the physical width and height of the current gate and provide us with this measurement.

Between 2 Walls – If you are installing between 2 existing walls simply measure the gap size. We will make all the required calculations for you.

No Support Structure in Place – If you are fitting the gate to an area free from existing support then simply measure the total space available and we will make all the other calculations for you.

Height of the Gates

You will need to specify the height of the gates you require. When doing so, remember that you will need to make an allowance for ground clearance so make sure you factor this in when making your decision.

Wooden Posts

Our wooden gates are designed to have the band part of the hinges mounted on the back face of gate and the hook section mounted onto the back of the wooden posts. Please make sure you inform us if the posts are to be wall mounted or set into the ground in concrete. This will allow us to quote for the most appropriate size post to suit your given requirements.

Gate Furniture

Wooden gates do not come with any fittings as standard therefore these will need to be purchased separately. If these items are required, let us know and we will include the appropriate fittings within any quote we provide.

Made to Measure Sizes

If a standard size can cannot be accommodated, we are able to offer made to measure sizes however we do have manufacturing limitations on the size we can offer. The limitations are as follows:

Single Gate

For our framed gates, the maximum physical gate width we can supply is 1830mm (6ft). The maximum physical height is 1980mm (6ft 6”).

Ledge and braced designs have a maximum physical width is 1070mm (3ft 6”) and a maximum physical height is 1980mm (6ft 6”).

Double Gates

The maximum physical width is 3660mm (12ft) which is the equivalent of 2 x 1830mm gates. The maximum physical height we can offer is 1980mm (6ft 6”)

Wooden Bi Fold Gates

The maximum physical width we can supply is 3660mm (12ft) which is the equivalent of 4 x 915mm gates. The maximum physical height we offer is 1220mm (4ft).

Services we do not offer:

Site Visits - We are an online only retailer and do not visit customers properties to take measurements. We rely on the information provided to us.

Installation - We carry out no installation work and do not have any installers we could recommend. Our gates are sold on a supply only basis. If you need the gate fitting, please source your own builder, joiner or handyman.

Sliding Gates - Currently we do not offer sliding gates.

Hardwood Gates - At present we do not offer hardwood gates as the cost is prohibitive to most customers.

Gate Automation - We do not supply electric motors and do not provide advice in relation to automating wooden gates. You will need to do your own research.

Locks - We are unable to provide any kind of lock with the gates. If these are required, you can employ a joiner to fit one for you.

Delivery Outside of the Mainland UK - Our delivery service is to a mainland UK address only. We do not deliver to any other area including the Isle of Wight, Channel Islands, Norther Ireland, or the Isle of Man.
