How To Measure - Installing Metal Fencing Between Brick Walls

  1. Measure the span between your existing brick walls, or support structures.

  2. Once you have established the available space, you can begin calculating the required number of panels. Remember that each standard metal fencing panel will "fit an opening" of 1830mm.

  3. When the distance between brick walls is wider than the "fits opening" measurement displayed on the product page, you will need to include metal posts to join the panels. Alternatively, you will need a made-to-measure size

  4. Refer to the "Ordering Examples" below for additinal help and advice.

Ordering Examples - Metal Fencing Mounted Between Brick Walls

Example 1(a) - Standard Size

A distance of 1830mm between brick walls necessitates using 1 x standard-size fence panel that "fits opening 1830mm."

Example 2(b) - Made to Measure

If the distance between brick walls is 1900 mm, you will need to purchase 1 x made-to-measure fence panel that "fits an opening of 1900 mm."

Example 2(a) - Standard Sizes

In this example, with the fence connected to a wall at both ends, an overall span of 3710mm would require 2 x standard-size panels that "fits opening 1830mm" and 1 x 50mm metal post to support the middle.

Example 2(b) - Made to Measure

In comparison, an overall span of 3900mm would require 2 x made-to-measure panels that "fit opening 1925mm" and 1 x 50mm metal post to support the centre.

Example 3(a) - Standard Size

If the distance between brick walls measures 5590mm, you will require 3 x standard fencing panels to "fit an opening of 1830mm" and 2 x 50mm metal posts.

Example 3(b) - Made to Measure

If the gap between the walls measures 7000mm, you will require 3 x made-to-measure fence panels to "fit an opening of 2300mm" and 2 x 50mm metal posts.

Ordering Examples - Installing Metal Fencing With No Walls Present

When existing structures do not support metal fencing, you must install the appropriate post type at the correct height. Listed below are some examples of ordering sizes.

Example 1(a) - Standard Size

If the total space is 1930mm, you will need 1 x standard-size fence panel that "fits an opening of 1830mm" and 2 x 50mm metal posts.

Example 1(b) - Made to Measure

If the total space is 2100mm, you will need 1 x made-to-measure fence that "fits an opening of 2000mm" and 2 x 50mm metal posts.

Example 2(a) - Standard Size

When the total space you have measures 3810mm, you will require 2 x standard-size fencing panels that "fit an opening of 1830mm" and 3 x bolt-down 50mm metal posts.

Example 2(b) - Made to Measure

In a scenario where the total space is 3500mm, you will need 2 x made-to-measure panels that "fit an opening of 1675mm" and 3 x 50mm metal posts.

2 x Metal fence panels & 3 x freestanding metal posts

Example 3(a) - Standard Size

In this illustration, if the total space measures 5690mm, you will require 3 x standard-size fencing panels that "fit an opening of 1830mm" and 4 x 50mm metal posts.

Example 3(b) - Made to Measure

In this illustration, if the total space measures 6500mm, you will require 3 x made-to-measure metal fencing panels that "fit an opening of 2100mm" and 4 x 50mm metal posts.

Essential Product Knowledge and Valuable Advice

  • Our standard-size metal fencing panels will "fit an opening of 1830mm".

  • The "fits opening" dimensions already include the space needed for the surface-mounted fitting brackets. You do not need to make any additional adjustments for these components.

  • The "fits opening" dimensions do not represent the physical width of the fence panel

  • If you are using "in-ground posts", they must be placed into the ground to the appropriate depth. Concrete should be utilised to stabilise these components to offer the proper support.

  • You must install "bolt-down posts" to the ground using suitable bolts. You must purchase these elsewhere because we do not include them.

  • Our metal post options have a universal design. This means that the fixing holes for the brackets are not pre-drilled. Consequently, you will need to drill pilot holes. Only use suitable self-tapping screws to fasten these components to the posts.

  • For fencing advertised as "physical height", we have not included any allowance for ground clearance. In most instances, 50mm (2") is sufficient; however, this can vary according to site constraints, ground levels, etc.

  • You must ensure that any walls are of sufficient height to provide a fixing point for the top mounting bracket. If this is not possible, you will need end posts.

  • The largest made-to-order width we can provide as a single fence will "fit an opening" of 2743mm

  • The maximum "physical height" we can offer in a made-to-measure size is 2134mm.
