Width (Fits Opening): This measurement pertains to the opening size needed between existing masonry or supports. These proportions already include the space required for the hinges and latch. You should not make any further allowances for these items.
-
Physical Height: This value relates to the gate's actual height measured from the frame's underside to the top of the arch. This dimension does not account for the space required for ground clearance.
Example Ordering Size
If the width between your walls or posts is 914mm, you must select a gate to "fit an opening of 914mm".
Do Metal Posts Need to Be Used?
You will need to install metal posts if there isn't any support for the hinges or latch fittings. Keep in mind that these accessories will take up extra space.
Example: A gate to fit an opening of 914mm combined with 2 x 50mm posts will require an overall space of 1014mm.

Important Information About the Abbey Metal Side Gate
Fittings: A pair of surface-mounted hinges and a latch fitting will be supplied with each gate. The screws to mount the hinge brackets and latch receiver plate are not provided.
Metal Posts: To provide the necessary level of support, you must only use metal posts of the correct size. You must install them to the proper depth and set in-ground posts with concrete.
Installation: Mount the hinges only if the arrangement can sustain the weight of the gate. Please see the installation instructions for further information.
Width: The "fits opening" size indicated in the menu includes the space necessary for the hinges and latch and corresponds to the gap size required for the gate to fit correctly. It does not refer to the actual width of the gate. If unsure what this means, go to the "how to select the correct size" webpage.
Painting: The Abbey metal side gate comes with a low-maintenance, zinc-plated and black powder-coated paint finish ready to install without needing further treatment.
