Ordering Sizes

• Width (Fits Opening): These measurements refer to the gap width between existing walls or posts. The dimensions already include the space taken up by the hinges and latch. No additional allowances are needed for these items.

• Height (once installed): This incorporates a 50mm (2") tolerance for ground clearance. The measurement is taken from the ground to the top horizontal frame. It excludes the scrollwork positioned above this point.

Example Ordering Size

If the width of your brickwork opening or existing gap measurement between posts is 2ft 6", you must choose a gate built to fit a 2ft 6" opening.

Are Metal Posts Required?

You will need to add metal posts if there is no support for the hinges or latch. Please be aware that these items will require extra space.

Example: A gate to fit an opening of 2ft 6" combined with 2 x 2" metal support posts will need an overall width of 2ft 10".

Important Information about the 6ft High Wrought Iron Style Winchester Metal Side Gate

Fittings: We include surface-mounted adjustable hinges and a tip latch fitting. We do not supply the mounting screws required for installation.

Metal Posts: We recommend that you only use metal posts of the proper size. When installing "in ground" posts, it is important that they are buried to the appropriate depth and are supported using concrete.

Installation: You should only attach the hinges to a masonry structure (or other existing posts) if it is strong enough to hold the weight of the gate. Please refer to the installation instructions for any further information about fitting the gate.

Width: The dimensions listed under "fits opening" includes the space required for the hinges and latch. It doesn't correspond to the gate's physical width. If you are confused about ordering sizes, please refer to our page showing customers how to choose the correct size.

Painting: Before installation, paint all surfaces to prevent rust and corrosion on the steel (applicable to the primed gate only). Alternatively, you can upgrade to the low-maintenance electro-galvanized (zinc plated) and black powder-coated paint finish for an additional charge.
