• Width (Fits Opening): These sizes refer to the opening width between existing walls or posts. The measurements already incorporate the space taken up by the hinges and latch (no additional allowance needs to be made for these components).

• Height (once installed): This includes a 50mm (2") allowance for ground clearance. The measurement is from the ground to the top arch.

Example Ordering Size

You must select a gate made to fit a 2ft 9" opening if the width of your brickwork opening or the current space between posts is 2ft 9".

Are Metal Posts Required?

Metal posts be required if there is no existing fixing point for the hinges or latch. If you need to purchase these items, please be mindful that posts require additional space.

Example: A gate to fit an opening of 2ft 9" installed with 2 x 2" metal posts will require an overall width of 3ft 1".

Fittings: We include surface-mounted adjustable hinges and latch (screws are not included).

Metal Posts: It is important to select metal posts of the appropriate size. When installing these items, ensure "in-ground" posts are supported with concrete.

Installation: You should only attach the hinges if the mounting surface is strong enough to support the weight of the gate. For all other fitting advice, please refer to the installation instructions.

Width: The space needed for the hinges and latch are included in the "fits opening" measurements. It does not correspond to the physical width of the gate. If you are unsure, we recommend you read our guide detailing how to select the correct size.

Painting: Before installation, you must treat all surfaces with good quality exterior-grade paint to prevent rust and corrosion on the steel (this applies to primed gates only). If you would prefer a pre-finished option, you can upgrade to the low-maintenance electro-galvanized (zinc plated) and black powder-coated paint.
