Installation of Kent Wooden Estate Gates at a Residential Driveway in Dorking

Project Overview

Within this case study we will examine the customer installation of our Kent Wooden Estate Gates at a residential property in Dorking, Surrey. With the primary objective of the installation been to enhance security, improve aesthetic appeal, and increase property value it was essential the correct gate design was chosen by the customer.

Client Background

The customer was a residential homeowner living in a picturesque area of Dorking and was looking for an affordable way to create a grand entrance to their property. With a slightly sloping driveway and the entrance set back from the road by several metres, they required gates that would not only complement their traditional home but would also work with the slope of the drive.

Requirements

• Aesthetic Appeal: The gates needed to complement the traditional architectural style of the property and natural surroundings.
• Durability: The wooden gates should be capable of offering durability.
• Security: A robust construction was a major factor in which design would be chosen. This element is essential to the overall stability of the gates.

Design and Materials

After an initial consultation, the design team proposed the following specifications:

• Material: Affordable smooth planed Scandinavian Redwood (softwood) would help keep costs down without compromising on appearance
• Design: To retain a traditional design element, tall arched double-swing gates with a vertically boarded infill panel was recommended.
• Finish: Whilst the gates are supplied untreated, the customer would be applying a hardwearing dark stained finish to all exposed timber surfaces to provide adequate protection against the elements.

Results

• Aesthetic Impact: As demonstrated in the photographs, the new gates significantly enhance the customers driveway entrance.
• Increased Security: Thanks to the tall arched top design and the solid boarded panel, security is now greatly enhanced. Furthermore, because they have been fitted with an optional sliding pad bolt, the customer can secure the gates using a standard padlock
