Ordering Sizes

• Width (Fits Opening): These dimensions correspond to the width of the opening between existing walls or posts. We already include the space required for the hinges and latch so no additional allowances are needed for these items.

• Height (once installed): This measurement is from ground level to the top of the arch. Within this, we include an allowance of 50mm (2") for ground clearance.

Example Ordering Size

If the distance between your walls or posts is 3ft 3", you must purchase a gate built to fit an opening of 3ft 3". 

Are Metal Posts Required? 

You will have to install metal posts if there is no existing support available to attach the hinges or latch. When purchasing these parts, please remember that they will take up more space. 

Example: A gate to fit an opening of 3ft 3" combined with 2 x 2" posts will require an overall width of 3ft 7".

Important Information about the 6ft high Metal Clifton Arched Wrought Iron Style Side Gate

Fittings: Surface-mounted hinges and a latch fitting are provided with the gate. We do not include the screws required to attach these components.

Posts: Only use metal posts that are capable of providing the necessary amount of support. When installing "in ground" posts, please make sure they are set to the appropriate depth and supported by concrete.

Installation: You must only attach the hinges to masonry (or other existing support) if the structure can hold the weight of the gate. For any other information about fitting the product, please read the installation instructions.

Width: The "fits opening" size displayed in the menu includes the space required for the hinges and latch. It does not refer to the phyical width of the framework. Please read our section showing how to select the correct gate size if you need further clarificaton.

Painting: If you select the Clifton metal side gate with a factory primed black (undercoat), you must paint all exposed surfaces before installation to protect against rust and corrosion. Alternatively, you can upgrade to the low-maintenance zinc plated (electro galvanised) and black powder-coated paint finish which is ready to be installaed without additional treatment.
