Useful Information About the Essex Arched (High Centre) Wooden Gates

Width Dimensions: The measurement related to the physical width of both gates (when placed next to each other). For clarification, this means that each pair comprises the following:

• 7ft pair = 2 x 3ft 6”

• 8ft pair = 2 x 4ft

• 9ft pair = 2 x 4ft 6”

• 10ft pair = 2 x 5ft

• 11ft pair = 2 x 5ft 6”

• 12ft pair = 2 x 6ft

Height Dimension: These measurements are the actual height of the gates at the sides and in the middle. The amount of space you need for ground clearance has not been accounted for within these dimensions; therefore, additional space should be available to allow for this. As a guide, we usually suggest leaving a gap of 50mm (2”) at the bottom of the gates.

Fittings: If you need to add a fitting pack to your order, please choose the appropriate option from the menu above.

Posts: Wooden posts should always be used to fit the gates. You can use wall-mounted posts fixed to an existing masonry structure. Alternatively, the posts may be set into the ground and supported using concrete. In either instance, to allow space for the hinges and latch, the gap formed between the posts should be 40mm wider than the width of the gates you have purchased.

Finish: Essex wooden gates are carefully constructed from untreated smooth planed Scandinavian softwood. You must therefore paint or stain all exposed timber surfaces before installation.

Installation: Only hook and band type hinges should be used when installing the gates. These must be the appropriate size to support the weight of each gate. Read the installation guide for more advice.
