Ordering Sizes
Choose the gates you need via the drop down menu at the top of the page. The physical width refers to the combined size of a pair of Drayton Wooden Gates placed side by side. The measurement does not refer to the opening size into which the gates will fit. We have made no allowance for the extra space you will need for the hinges, fittings, posts or ground clearance.

Useful Information About the Drayton Double Wooden Drive Gates
Width Dimensions: Quorn wooden drive gates are supplied as a pair with the measurements listed in the drop-down box relating to the actual width of both gates when placed side by side. To avoid confusion, each pair is made up as follows:
-
2400mm pair = 2 x 1200mm
-
2700mm pair = 2 x 1350mm
-
3000mm pair = 2 x 1500mm
-
3300mm pair = 2 x 1650mm
-
3600mm pair = 2 x 1800mm
Height Dimensions: The height shown in the product description is the actual height of the gates measured from the underside to the highest point. When installing, you will need to allow for ground clearance which in most instances will be around 50mm (2”).
Fittings: The hinges, latch and drop bolt are not supplied with the gates. If these items are required, you will need to add the appropriate fitting pack to your order using the drop-down box in the options and accessories menu.
Posts: To achieve the best results we recommend installing the gates onto wooden posts of the appropriate size. For free standing installations, you will need to use in ground posts, and they should be sunk to an appropriate depth to suit ground conditions. If you are mounting between an existing masonry structure (such as walls or brick pillars) the use of wall mounted posts is recommended. In both instances, the opening formed between the posts should be 40mm wider than the physical width of the gates to allow the required spacing for the hinges and to allow for expansion and contraction of the wood throughout the year.
Finish: The Drayton design is constructed from smooth planed pressure treated softwood to ensure maximum levels of protection against rot and decay. This low maintenance option means you do not need to stain or paint the gates prior to installation. Please do note however that the pressure treatment process will result in timber having a green tinge to it upon delivery. This is normal and will weather down over time to give a more natural appearance.
Installation: When installing the gates, we only recommend the use of hook and band type hinges as these will provide the best level of support. The hinges should be mounted to the top and bottom horizontal rail and mount onto the back of the wooden posts. For more details read our general installation guide.

Calculating the Size | Freestanding Installations Using Wooden Posts
What Size Opening Will Be Required Between the Wooden Posts?
The following space should be available if you plan to install wooden gates between existing timber posts (with the hinges mounted on the rear face of the gate/post).
Physical Width of the Pair of Gates Width of Opening Required Between Posts 2400mm 2440mm 2700mm 2740mm 3000mm 3040mm 3300mm 3340mm 3600mm 3640mm NB* sizes are based on the options shown in the drop-down menu.
What If I Need to Add Wooden Posts?
You must account for the added space required for installations that require wooden posts.
The calculation is carried out as follows:
Physical width of gates + width of posts (2 x 100mm is sufficient if using wall-mounted posts or 2 x 150mm if freestanding posts are utilised)
+ 40mm (space needed for hinges, latch and opening tolerances).
= Total Overall Space Required
Example
A pair of 2400mm gates combined with 2 x 100mm posts will demand a total overall space of 2640mm.
What Size Hinges and Fittings Do I Require to Complete the Installation?
We recommend using 18" or 24" hook and band hinges (depending on the size you order) 1 x ring latch and a minimum of 1 x drop bolt to keep the gates shut.
